Its is an exercise that should be done by asking right questions in a team consisting of members with diverse academic, industrial, functional backgrounds. The solution for a particular technology need identified in solving a problem in a specific industry, could come from any other industry. Adopting that solution will benefit both companies of different  and non-competitive industries.
